So the count down begins. The big day is almost here – and I still haven’t finished all of my shopping. Anyway, bulk of my presents this year will be from our marvellous City Centre. I hope you have all made it onto Father Christmas’ ‘Good List’ – I don’t know if I have, but as Mayor I get an honorary listing because of the office – phew.
This week I’ve attended 11 events, functions and meetings as your Mayor.
On Wednesday I had three events. First was the WI Carol Concert in the Cathedral. Then onto a reception at the Wells Almshouses, which was held after their carol service. In the evening the Mayoress and I hosted a reception in the Mayor’s Parlour various guests.
Thursday was a nerve raking day as I attended the Mid Somerset Series Carol Concert. What was unnerving me was my reading, for which I have never read in the Cathedral before. With 2000 pairs of eyes looking at you – the pressure is on.
On Friday the Mayoress, my Chaplin and I helped to host the Children’s Christmas Party. Well done to Wells Action for organising the event. What darlings they all were – I deserved my G&T afterwards.
On Saturday I attended a reception for the Somerset Community Foundation in Vicars Hall. After that event, I attended the Wells City Band Christmas Concert in the Town Hall.
Sunday was a very nice day. During the day, my family visited me from Hedge End including my nephew Stanley (8 months). It was great to see them, especially since I’m not going home for crimbo for the first time. I suppose once in 34 years isn’t too bad. However, I will truly miss them all on the day.
Had a busy day on Monday. My Chaplin and I attended lunch with the Wells Stroke Club. It was a wonderful meal. It was great to be with such a wonderful group of people.
Later that day I attended the Cantabile Ladies Choir Concert at St. Thomas’ Church. It was an excellent performance, really put all into the Christmas spirit.
Over the next week my diary includes Council meetings a party at Spencer House, Christmas Eve (St Joseph & St Teresa, the Elim Church, Fletcher House, Cathedral View, St. Thomas’ and Midnight Mass at the Cathedral) and Christmas Day (St. Cuthbert’s Church, Wells Police Station and The Swan Hotel).
